A Woodstock resident was found safe after a two-hour search by police, firefighters and paramedics early Monday morning after their snowmobile fell through the ice.

The Oxford County OPP responded around 3:30 a.m. to a report that a snowmobile had broken through the ice on a pond in Blandford-Blenheim Township. After reportedly becoming separated from friends, the 26-year-old snowmobile driver crossed a pond and broke through the ice in an unknown location.

The driver reportedly rescued themselves, though the snowmobile sunk into the water.

Police found the driver at around 6 a.m. outside of Innerkip. The driver was taken to hospital with injuries considered serious but not life-threatening.
